Many activities enjoyed by BDSM practitioners result in some sort of superficial mark or bruise. While some people draw the line at the first sign of rosy skin, others take pleasure in the sight and feel of raw, broken or swollen skin. There are people who, for personal or professional reasons, must avoid lasting marks of any kind on their body, regardless or whether or not they actually mind them. In the adult industry, for example, a model cannot show up to a shoot with unsightly bruises from the previous day's scene. There are other people who are simply dissatisfied by play that doesn't result in lasting bodily mementos of some kind. We decided to ask a few people with passionate opionions on the issue of marking so that we could better understand this complicated byproduct of an intense BDSM exchange.
